Local avalanche professional, Julie McBride, presents an exhilarating and educational seminar on avalanches and risk in the Bridge River and Duffy Lake areas.
Title: “Ice Climbing and Avalanche Hazard for the Duffey Lake Road and Bridge River Canyon”
Presenter: Julie McBride is a Professional Member of the Canadian Avalanche Association, Avalanche Technician, and Forecaster for the BC Ministry of Transportation and Transit Coast/Chilcotin Program.
Overview: In this fascinating presentation she provides an overview of avalanche risk for several classic Duffey Lake Road and Bridge River ice climbing routes. This presentation highlights weather, forecasting, and terrain resources available to climbers to aid them in their planning and decision-making processes. Julie draws from personal experience as a local ice climber, as well as historical archives of the highways forecasting program to provide an informative and engaging discussion of avalanche character and occurrences in these two iconic West Coast Ice climbing areas.
