7:00 PM - Ice Climbing Safety Presentation (15mins)
Local legend and Arcteryx Athlete, Paul McSorley, will walk us through images of classic West Coast ice climbs.7:30 PM - Ice Climbing & Avalanches Presentation (20mins)
Government official, Julie McBride, is a Professional Member of the Canadian Avalanche Association, Avalanche Technician, and Forecaster for the BC Ministry of Transportation and Transit Coast/Chilcotin Program.
Overview: In this fascinating presentation Julie provides an overview of avalanche risk for several classic Duffey Lake Road and Bridge River ice climbing routes. This presentation highlights weather, forecasting, and terrain resources available to climbers to aid them in their planning and decision-making processes. Julie draws from personal experience as a local ice climber, as well as historical archives of the highways forecasting program to provide an informative and engaging discussion of avalanche character and occurrences in these two iconic West Coast Ice climbing areas.
